physics unit 4 Flashcards
live wire definition
supplies mains electricity to appliances
brown
neutral wire definition
connection the circuit
blue
earth wire definition
where electricity escapes through if there is fault
green
alternate circuit properties
direction changes from + to -
electrons flow forward and backward
direct current properties
direction stays the same throughout the time
electrons flow in the same way
series circuit properties
- no auction / branch
- current is flowing through the same path
- one switch placed anywhere in the circuit can control the bulbs
- if one bulb breaks it creates a gap in the current
- energy is shared by all bulbs
parallel circuit properties
- different junctions / branches
- current is flowing through different paths
- different switches are placed in different parts to control the bulbs individually
- if the bulb breaks only the bulbs in that particular part will be affected
- voltage remains the same in all branches
thermistor properties
temperature increases = resistance decreases
light dependent resistor properties
light increases = resistance decreases
Ohm’s law
directly proportional
temperature is constant
static electricity definition
build up of charges which do not move
