Physics Test 1 Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 3 laws of static electricity
A
Opposite charges attract
Like charges repel
Neutral objects are attracted to charged objects
2
Q
How is lightning produced
A
- Water droplets rub with other particles in the cloud which build up a charge. The particles end up at the bottom of the cloud. The bottom is now negative.
- The negative charge on the bottom of the cloud repels the negative charge in the ground leaving the ground positive.
- Electric discharge happens between the cloud and the ground to balance out the charges. Electric discharge is lighting
3
Q
Electro static series
A
Top loses electrons
Bottom gains electrons
4
Q
Conductors vs insulators
A
Conductor is metal
Insulator is anything else
5
Q
Conduction vs induction
A
The electrons on the negative rod repel each other and jump from the rod to the pith ball
