Q

What is amplitude?

A

The amplitude is seen as the height of the wave and defines how loud a sound is on a sound wave.

Q

What is a transverse wave?

A

This is a wave that travels away from the source at right angles to the movement of the source. they move up and down

Q

What is interference?

A

The effect produced by 2 waves meeting each other. it can only happen when the waves are the same types.

16
Q

What is constructive interference?

A

When 2 waves interfere together to form a bigger wave [Reinforce]

17
Q

What is destructive interference?

A

When 2 waves interfere together to cancel each other out [Cancel]

18
Q

What does reinforce mean?

A

To make stronger.

19
Q

Describe the capture theory.

A

In the early solar system, a large object was captured by earth’s gravitational field.

20
Q

Describe the fission theory.

A

The earth was spinning so fast that a bulge of it was thrown off to form the moon.

21
Q

Describe the Co-acceleration or simultaneous formation of the moon.

A

The earth and the moon were formed at the same time.

22
Q

Describe the impact theory.

A

A large asteroid hit the earth and rocks by the impact were launched up into orbit.

23
Q

What is a Nebula?

A

A stellar nursery- a region of clouds of dust and gas. This is where stars are born.

24
Q

What is the closest nebula.

A

Orion nebula (M42)

25
Q

How is a Red giant formed?

A

When a star begins to run out of hydrogen and helium its layers begin to expand and become less bright.

26
Q

The continents were once connected together to form a larger continent called Pangea. What evidence can you use to prove this theory correct?

A
  1. Study of fossils: similar fossils are found on different continents. this could show that they were once joined or close together.
  2. Pattern of rocks: Similar patterns of rock layer on different continents could show that they were once close together or joined.
  3. Shape of continent. shape of continents fit together like a jigsaw puzzle.
27
Q

Why did Pangea break apart?

A

Because of convection currents under the crust pulling pieces of the large continent away.
