Force
Push or pull acting on an object due to an interaction with another object
Examples of contact forces
- Friction
- Air resistance
- Tension
- Normal contact force
Examples of non-contact forces
- Magnetic force
- Electrostatic force
- Gravitational force
Vector Quantities

- Acceleration
- Momentum
Scalar Quantities
- Speed
- Time
- Mass
- Density
- Energy
- Distance
Resultant Force
A single force that has the same effect as all the original forces acting together
Work done
When a force causes an object to move through a distance
What happens when work is done against friction?
Rise in temperature
Fluid
Liquid or Gas
How does pressure in fluids act?
Pressure in fluids causes a force to act at right angles to any surface
What is upthrust
The force upwards when an object is submerged in water
When the pressure at the bottom of the object is greater than at the top, the object floats
Why does pressure increase as an object sinks?
Weight above object increases
If the liquid is sense, then there is a greater mass per unit of volume, so a greater weight
And gravitational field strength determines the weight for the given mass
What causes shit to sink
If the weight is larger than the upthrust, then it sinks.
If the density of the object is greater, then it sinks, but if the density of the water is greater then it floats.
ATmosphere
It is a thin layer of air around earth, WHICH GETS LESS DENSE WITH INCREASING ALTITUDE
Air molecules colliding with a surface
What creates atmospheric pressure
When air molecules collide with a surface
