Physics -newtons law of motion Flashcards
what is newtons 1st law?
until an unbalanced force is applied to it the body at rest remains stationary, and bodies in motion continue to move at uniform velocity.
example for newtons first law
if there is a ball on the ground without any unbalanced force the object is stationary
earth revolves around the sun at a uniform velocity because there is no unbalanced force
newtons 2nd law
what are the 2 factors that acceleration depends on
the magnitude of the unbalanced force
mass of the object
what is the relationship between magnitude and acceleration?
when the magnitude of unbalanced force increases, the acceleration also increases this is called acceleration is directly proportional to the unbalanced force.
what is the relationship between mass and acceleration?
when the mass of the object increases, acceleration decreases this is called as acceleration is inversely proportional to the mass
definition of newton’s 2nd law
the acceleration of a body is directly proportional to it’s magnitude, while it’s inversely proportional to its mass.
what is newton’s 3rd law?
for every action, there is an equal and an opposite reaction
what is momentum?
momentum od a moving body is the measure i=of how difficult it is to stop the motion
what is mass
the amount of substance is known as mass
what is weight
the amount of mass of the object attracted towards the earth. this attracting force is known as weight
