Physics Final (3d): LIGHT Flashcards
Light Waves
an oscillating electric and magnetic field that propogates through space
Wave Speed
equal to the frequency of the wave multiplied by the wavelength of the wave
EM Spectrum
the entire spectrum of light waves including radio waves, microwvaes, infrared light, visible light, UV rays, X-rays, and gamma rays
Light Polarization
the attribute that a wave’s oscillations have a definite direction relative to the direction of propagation of the wave
Diffraction
the bending of light around an obstacle in its path
Radioactivity
emission of rays when a nucleus destroys part of its mass
Alpha Radiation (α)
radiation emission of a helium nucleus
Beta Radiation (β)
radiation emission of an electron
Gamma Radiation (γ)
radiation emission of a high-energy photon by a nucleus
