Physics Final (3a): ELECTRICITY Flashcards
Electric Charge
an electric property of matter, either positive or negative
Electron
one of the fundamental particles found in nature, has a NEGATIVE charge
Proton
elementary particle found in the nucleus of an atom, has a POSITIVE charge
Neutron
elementary particle found in the nucleus, has ZERO charge
Charge Transfer
charge is usually transferred because electrons move from one place to another
Conductor
a material that allows electrons to flow freely
Insulator
a mterial that does not allow electrons to flow freely
Electric Force (Coulomb’s Law)
the force between two charged objects, could be attractive or repulsive
Polarization
charges are rearranged so that there is a net charge separation
Electric Field
the area around a charge that is “felt by” or applies a force to other nearby charges
