Physics Final (3b): CURRENT Flashcards
Electric Current
the flow of electric charge from one place to another
Electric Circuits
a closed path through which charge can flow and returns to its starting point
Direct Current (DC) Circuit
a circuit that has a current that flows only in one direction
Batteries
produce electric potential difference between terminals with stored chemical energy
Resistors
a material that presents some resistance to the motion of electrons
Ohm’s Law
the guiding principle behind the motion of electrons in a circuit
Electrical Power
the amount of energy used over time to move charges
Equivalent Resistance
the resistance of a circuit that accounts for multiple resistors, either in parallel or in a series
Ammeter
device for measuring current
Voltmeter
device that measure voltages
Short Circuit
very low resistance wire somehow creates a parallel circuit with another circuit component, and the current is completely or almost entirely redirected around the component
