Give advantage of Nuclear energy.

A

It produces a lot of energy
= 300 000 MJ
Greenhouse gas.

21
Q

Give disadvantage of Nuclear energy.

A

If there’s an accident then it can cause diseases such as cancer. (radioactive)

22
Q

What type of source is bio-fuel?

A

Renewable.

23
Q

Give advantages of bio-fuel.

A

High conductivity.

24
Q

Give disadvantages of bio-fuels.

A

does not hold as much power when compared to regular diesel or gasoline based fuels

25
Q

What type of source is tidal energy?

A

Renewable.

26
Q

Give advantages of tidal energy.

A

No carbon-dioxide is released.

No fuel needed.

27
Q

Give disadvantages of tidal energy.

A

Loads of cables needed. Can ruin coastlines. Expensive

28
Q

What is a series circuit?

A

The components are connected end-to-end, one after the another.
They make a simple circuit for current to flow around.
If one bulb is removed the whole circuit is broken and all the bulbs go out.

29
Q

What is a parallel circuit?

A

The components are connected side-by-side. the current has a choice of paths/routes. If one bulb blows there would still be a circuit to the other bulb so it stays lit.

30
Q

Define electricity.

A

Electricity is the flow of electrons.

31
Q

A circuit must be…

A

complete for electricity to flow through.

32
Q

What do electrical insulators do?

A

They prevent the flow of electricity.

33
Q

Explain Series circuit further.

A

Current is the same at any point.

The voltage is also the same.

34
Q

Explain parallel circuit further.

A

The circuit splits equally into the number of branches you have.
The voltage is the SAME!

35
Q

What is current measured in?

A

Amps (Ammeter)

36
Q

What is voltage measured in?

A

Volts.

37
Q

What is the resistance measured in?

A

Ohms.

38
Q

Describe state of gases.

A
Particles are spread out.
Random arrangement.
Low density.
Particles are free to move around.
They have a lot of kinetic energy.
39
Q

Describe the state of liquid.

A

Particles are randomly arranged.
Not in a fixed position.
Particles can move medium density.
Not so much kinetic energy.

40
Q

Describe the state of a solid.

A

Fixed shape/position.
They cannot move but can vibrate in a fixed position.
High density.
No kinetic energy.

41
Q

What is density?

A

The mass per unit volume.

42
Q

What is specific latent heat?

A

The amount of energy required to change 1 kg of a substance.

43
Q

What is independent variable?

A

something that you can change.

44
Q

What is dependent variable?

A

something you measure.

45
Q

What is control variable?

A

something that you keep the same.

46
Q

What is latent heat of fusion?

A

the amount of energy needed to change a substance from a liquid to solid.

47
Q

What is latent heat of vaporization?

A

the amount of energy needed to change a substance from gas to liquid.

48
Q

What is specific latent heat?

A

the energy needed to change a substance from a solid to a liquid.
