Physics (1) Flashcards
The distance traveled in a given amount of time.
Average speed
The change in displacement in a given amount of time.
Average velocity
An error based on the viewing angle.
Parallax error
Motion which involves constant speed (no acceleration).
Uniform motion
A means of communicating the accuracy of a measurement based upon the number of digits in a value.
Scientifc figures
A means of communicating a value; particularly useful when the value is an extremely large or extremely small value.
Scientific Notation
A unit used to find all other units (ex: meter).
Base Unit
The product of “speed multiplied by time”.
Distance
A quantity which has a magnitude and unit, but no direction.
Scalar
The straight line measurement (including direction) from an object’s starting position to its final position.
Displacement
The point from which the position of an object is measured.
Reference point
Descriptions made by observations.
Qualitative
Descriptions made by measuring or counting.
Quantitative
How close a measure value is to the actual value.
Accuracy
How close measured values are to each other.
Precision
Rest
Not moving
Position-time graph
shows how an object’s position changes over time. (slope = Speed
Derived Unit
unit made by combining other units, like speed (m/s)
Tangent Line
straight line that touches a curve at one point without crossing it
Instantaneous Velocity
the speed and direction of an object at a specific moment in time.
