Physical Science- module 10 Flashcards
Define “kinetic friction”.
The friction that exists between two surfaces when at least one of those surfaces is moving relative to the other.
Define “static friction”.
The friction that exists between two surfaces when neither surface is moving relative to the other.
What is Newton’s first law of motion?
The velocity of an object will not change unless acted upon by an outside force.
What is Newton’s second law of motion?
When an object is acted upon by an outside force, the strength of that force is equal to the mass of the object times the resulting acceleration.
What is Newton’s third law of motion?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Define “friction”.
A force resulting from the contact of two surfaces. This force opposes motion.
What is the definition of a Newton?
The Newton is defined as kilograms times meters per second squared.
