Physical Properties Flashcards
LDF: depends on
DD: depends on
HB: depends on
what does BP and solubility depend on?
-size then shape
-bond dipole
-number of bonding sites
-BP depends on number of IMFS then LDF while solubility depends on the presence of them and non polar chunk
Boiling Points
For different carbons and group, what to look at?
For same carbons but different groups?
Isomers?
-number of IMFS, size of LDF, shape (linear)
-CA, alc, esters, halides (NP), alkyne, alkane, alkene
-more branches means less linear so less BP
Solubility
-HB vs DD vs LDF
-what does it depend on if 2 are the same
-highly soluble, slightly, not
-size of the non polar chunk. bigger NP part means less soluble.
-also depends on the location of polar part. if its in middle its less, but end is more. (linear vs round)
