What is physical geography?
Physical geography is the natural features and events on
Earth. It includes landforms and weather.
What are landforms?
Natural features formed by rivers, the sea,
ice and volcanoes.
What is climate?
The average weather conditions of a place, usually taken over a 30-year period.
What is weather?
The day to day condition of the atmosphere.
It includes temperature, rainfall and wind.
What is atmosphere?
The air around the earth.
What is Latitude?
These are lines that go around the earth. The best known is the
Equator (0°). The lines are measured in degrees north or south of the
Equator.
Name 5 important lines of Latitude
0° - Equator
23½° N – Tropic of Cancer
23½° S – Tropic of Capricorn
66½° N – Arctic Circle
66½° S – Antarctic Circle
What is longitude?
These are imaginary lines that go from North Pole to South Pole. They are measured from the
Greenwich Meridian (Prime Meridian). (0°)
