Why are map symbols used?
They are used as there isnβt enough room to put text.
What are the three ways of showing height on a map
Spot heights - gives exact height above sea level in meters. They are represented by black dots or triangulation pillar (shows the highest point), tirangle with a blue dot.
Layer Colouring - shows different heights using bands of colour. Brown is used for the high ground
and lighter shade of green for the lower land. Often used in a Atlas
Contours - lines that join places of equal height. Usually brown, height is given in metres.
Shown in metres above sea level
What does the distance between contour lines show
How steep the land is
Closer together - more steep
Further apart - more flat/less steep
