physical fieldwork Flashcards
1
Q
what we did?
A
- environmental quality assessments of different areas
- measured beach profiles to assess the height of beaches
- assessed coastal landforms at Lulworth cove and Durdle Door - (eg - cove/bay, embryo bay, arch, stack, stump)
- Measured the size of the sediment on the beach to ascertain if there was a difference between the proximity to the sea and the size of sediment (the bigger the sediment the closer the sea it was).
2
Q
what we found out?
A
- beaches with coastal defences (sea walls, groynes ect) were bigger as they were trapping the sediment.
- The beaches were also steeper as there was more sediment trapped.
- Bigger sediment nearer to the water’s edge and smaller further up the beach- this is because smaller sediment can be pushed up the beach as it is lighter.
3
Q
limitations- what issues did you find?
A
- Raining meant it was harder to read the equipment therefore the results were not as accurate as they should be.
4
Q
limitations- if done again what would you do differently?
A
- Go over a week period several times in a year to be able to get the most accurate results possible.
5
Q
physical fieldwork hypothesis
A
- There will be a difference in the volume of sediment where coastal defences are present
