chemicals, drugs, and alcohol consumed while carrying fetus can cause negative affects on it
Physical Development
maturation of the body; going from not being able to sit up to being able to walk
Fine Motor Coordination
small muscle movements (simple skills)
Gross Motor Coordination
big muscle movements (big milestone skills)
Rooting Reflex
when something touches a newborn’s cheek, the infant turns toward that side with open mouth
Visual Cliff
used to study when babies learn depth perception
Critical Periods
time frame when children must be exposed to learn or develop certain abilities/skills
Sensitive Periods
still need to be exposed to develop skills but more flexible with time
Imprinting
(only happens with birds) become rigidly attached to first moving object they see

change in height, weight, and hormones
