What is Exercise/Physical Exercise
Planned or structured physical activity requiring effort, aimed at improving health and fitness
Define the term physical activity
Physical activity is anything that gets the body moving and the heart pumping faster than at rest
Describe what is meant by Healthy Balanced Lifestyles
Day to day life that has equilibrium, quality and wellness. factors include; exercise, nutritious diet, rest/sleep, interests/hobbies, personal hygiene, control of stress, relationships.
Define Life-long physical activity and give an example
Enjoyable, health enhancing movement that is sustained through life, e.g. yoga
Define Lifetime Sport and give relevant examples
Activities that can be enjoyed over the course of a lifetime, e.g. tennis, badminton
Describe what is meant by a physical benefit of participation in physical activity
To do with the body, e.g. potential to reduce the risk of disease or improved cardio-vascular fitness
Describe what is meant by a mental benefit of physical activity
To do with the mind, e.g. stress relief
Describe what is meant by a personal benefit of physical activity
To with your self, e.g. improved self-esteem
Describe what is meant by a social benefit of physical activity
To do with others, e.g. having positive relationships

What are the current recommended levels of exercise required to develop and sustain an active healthy lifestyle?
For adults - 30 minutes moderate exercise 5 days per week
For children - 60 minutes of moderate exercise every day
List some potential barriers to physical activity for young people
Cost, Kit, Transport, Facilities nearby, Tired after school/college, Friends don’t do it, Risky to jog outside, Don’t want to show body, have a job, no time
