What is holistic development
Concerned with whole development of pies
What is a milestone
Children should be able to meet a particular development point at a certain age
What is normative development
Looks at standard a child should meet at a certain age and progress in a particular order
What is development
Increase in skills
What is growth
Increase in physical size
What influences growth? And why?
Nutrients- over fed=weight gain. Under fed=weight loss
Hormones- lack of thyroxin leads to stunt growth
Heredity- genes of metabolism rate
Emotional influences- encouraged and praise when trying to move muscles which stimulate growth
What is phase one of growth?
Birth to 2 years Rapid growth First year baby is 3x its original weight Baby grows 25-30cm in first year Head is 1/4 of body proportion
What is phase 2 of growth?
2 years to adolescence
5-8cm in height every year
6/7 pounds per year gained
7 year old head is 1/8 of body proportion

Simple-complex
Head-toe
Generalised-specific
Inner-outer
What is locomotion
Being able to move independently without support
What is balance?
Ability to move without falling
What is hand eye coordination and when is it developed
Depth perception
Around 9 month baby can guid movement eg. Pick up objects
