Q

Specific heat cap steps

A
  1. Set balance to zero w beaker on it
  2. Add oil and record mass
  3. Place thermometer and immersion heater- connected to a jojo meter, in the oil, wrap in insulating foam
  4. Record initial temp
  5. Leave for 30 mins so temp can rise
  6. Read number of joules and final temp
  7. Specific heat = energy / mass x change in temp

Q

Sources of inaccuracy in spec heat cap experiment

A
  • thermal energy could pass out of beaker so should insulate
  • not all thermal energy passes into oil so should make sure heater is fully submerged
  • incorrect reading of thermometer so should use electronic probe

Q

How to do current pd practical

A
  • make not of PD and current
  • change resistence w the variable resistor and make note again
  • repeat
  • switch direction of battery
  • continue taking readings at dif resistences of pd and current
  • EXTRA resistor in diode one as is easily damaged

Q

Reason for filament lamp graph

A
  • when current increases temp of lamp increases
  • this means resistence increases which slows current

Q

Resistence prac steps

A
  • attach wire using tape to ruler and connect using two crocodile clips to rest of circuit
  • you can move closer and further apart and measure resistence in ten circuit
  • resistence is proportional to length

Q

In accuracies in resistence prac

A
  • zero error: reading when value should be zero, can’t be stopped so we need to subtract it from our readings
  • contact between croc clip and wire caused some resistence
  • temp of wire increases resistence; we should use a low PD to keep current low and only turn on when taking a reading
