Photosythesis Flashcards
What are the organs of a plant?
Roots, stems and leaves.
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide + Water = Glucose + Oxygen
What useful product does photosynthesis create?
Glucose.
What are glucose used for?
‘food’/energy
How is glucose used/stored? (5)
- Used in respiration (release of energy) which then allows glucose other to be used for other purposes.
- Help repair cell walls. Creates cellulose, helps repair cell walls.
- Glucose and other nitrate ions help create amino acids which makes proteins for the plants.
- Stored in seeds.
- Stored as starch.
What does the xylem transport?
Water.
What does the phloem transport?
Food.
How does photosynthesis occur?
The chloroplast in the leave, contain chlorophyll which allows photosynthesis to occur.
What can affect photosynthesis?
Temp, CO2, Light, (also water)
What is a ‘limiting factor’?
Something that slows down photosynthesis.
How can you measure photosynthesis?
Experiment with pondweed, count or measure about of bubbles = oxygen released.
If CO2 and Sunlight is too low it can decrease rate of photosynthesis. True or false?
True.
What temp will enzymes denature in a plant?
45C is too hot = enzymes to denature.
How can we create perfect conditions for a plant to grow?
Greenhouse.
How does a Green House create perfect conditions for plants to grow?
Heat - GH traps the sunlights heat
Light - artificial lighting = 24/7 light
CO2 - paraffin heaters, which can be added to help keep perfect temp for GH in winter release CO2 as a by product.
