Photosynthesis - Chapter 8 - College Biology Flashcards
light reaction (4)
1) Chlorophyll absorbs light energy, exciting electrons.
2) Water molecules are split to release oxygen, protons, and electrons.
3) Excited electrons travel through the ETC, creating a proton gradient.
4) The proton gradient drives ATP synthesis, and electrons reduce NADP+ to NADPH.
where does light reaction take place?
Thylakoid of chloroplasts
Inputs (4) and outputs (3) of light reaction
In - H20, light energy, NADP+, ADP+Pi
Out - NADPH, ATP, O
Calvin cycle (3)
1) Co2 combines with RuBP, forming 3PGA
2) 3 PGA converts to G3P using ATP and NADPH
3) G3P used to regenerate RuBP, allowing cycle to restart
Inputs (3) and outputs of Calvin Cycle (3)
In - CO2, ATP, NADH
Out - G3P, ADP, NADP+
Where does Calvin cycle occur?
Stoma of Chloroplasts
