Photosynthesis Flashcards
Where does photosynthesis happen
It occurs in the chloroplasts of leaf cells
Why does photosynthesis happen in the chloroplasts?
Chloroplasts containing the green pigment chlorophyll transfer energy from the sun to power the reaction
What is photosynthesis
Photosynthesis is the process of plants making food
Function of epidermis
Allows light through to the palisade for photosynthesis, also the waxy layer reduces water from evaporating
Function of the palisade layer
Contains cells packed with chloroplasts so that photosynthesis can take place
Function of the spongy layer
Contains air spaces for gases to diffuse throughout the leaf
Function of the stoma
Tiny holes under the leaf that let carbon dioxide in, while oxygen and water vapour and sent out
Function of the guard cells
Open and close the stomata
Word equation of photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide + water —–> glucose + oxygen
