Photosynthesis Flashcards
Heterotroph
Obtain their energy from the foods they consume.
Autotroph
Create their own energy using light or chemical energy(chemosynthetic bacteria).
Thylakoid
Coin shaped compartments.
Granum
A stack of Thylakoids.
Stroma
The space outside the Granum.
Chloroplast
The organelles where photosynthesis takes place.
Chlorophyll
A molecule in chloroplasts that absorb some of the energy in light. Chlorophyll does not absorb green light.
Light Dependent Reaction
Chlorophyll absorbs energy from sunlight,The energy is broken down in the thylakoids membrane. H2O molecules are broken down and O2 is released. Energy is transformed into ATP.
Light Independent Reactions
Use energy from Light dependent reactions to make sugars. Happens in the stromas of chloroplasts. CO2 is used to build larger molecules. Glucose is formed.
Chemosynthesis
The process by which some organisms use chemical energy instead of light energy.
