Photosynthesis Flashcards
What is produced from photosynthesis
Glucose (sugar molecules) and oxygen
What do plants need for photosynthesis
Carbon dioxide, water, light energy
Word equation
Carbon dioxide + water ➡️ glucose + oxygen
What is photosynthesis
When plants use sunlight and carbon dioxide to create oxygen and energy (in the form of sugar)
Where does photosynthesis happen
In algee and plants…more specifically in chlorophyll which is found in the chloroplast
What does endothermic mean
Absorbs/ take in heat energy
What does exothermic mean
Heat energy emitting/ coming out
Is photosynthesis endothermic or exothermic
Endothermic
What makes photosynthesis occur
Sunlight
What absorbs the sunlight
Chlorophyll
What does the transparent waxy cuticle do in a leaf
A waterproof protective layer. Allows light to enter the leaf,
What is are palisade cells in leaves
Contains a lot of chloroplasts which helps photosynthesis. They are closely packed, maximising light absorption. Most of the photosynthesis happens here
Air spaces in the spongy layer
Reduces carbon dioxide concentration in the air spaces, drawing more into the leaf from the atmosphere
What are guard cells in a leaf
Allows gas exchange and controls water loss within the leaf
What is Stomata in a leaf
a pore found in the epidermis of leaves, stems, and other organs, that controls the rate of gas exchange between the internal air spaces of the leaf and the atmosphere
