Photosynthesis Flashcards
ADP
Stands for adenosine diphosphate which is a molecule involve in transferring and providing cells with energy
ATP
Stands for Adenosine Triphosphate which is a molecule that provides energy in various biochemical processes in the body.
Autotrophs
Organisms that can synthesis their own food directly from carbon dioxide and water using energy
Hererotrophs
Organisms that cannot synthesis their own food and must consume other organisms to obtain energy.
Carbon Dioxide (co2)
Its a chemical compound that is composed of one carbon and 2 oxygen atoms.
Chemical equation of photosynthesis
6co2+6h2o ->C6H12O6+6O2.
Chlorophyll
A pigment in plant leafs that reflects green light and absorbs wavelength of light to drive photosynthesis.
Glucose (c6h1206)
A simple sugar produced during photosynthesis that provides organisms with energy and fixed carbon
Granum
Is a stack of flatted disc like structures that are calle thylakoids that are tightly organized one above the other inside the chloroplast in a plant cell.
Light Dependent Reactions
The first stage of photosynthesis. In which light energy is captured and used to produce ATP and NADH
Light Independent Reactions
The second stage of photosynthesis in which ATP and NADH are used to fix carbon dioxide into organic compound
Stroma
The fluid filled space inside chloroplast where the light dependent reactions occur
Mesophyll Cell
A type of plant cells that contain chloroplast and its responsable for for photosynthesis.
Epidermis
The outermost layer of cells on a plant surface
Cuticle
A waxy layer on the surface of leaves that helps prevent water loss
