Q

How does light intensity affect the rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • At low light levels the rate of photosynthesis is slow,
  • as there is a low amount of energy for reactions to occur
  • as light intensity increases, rate increases

Q

How does carbon dioxide concentration affect the rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • Carbon dioxide is a reactant in photosynthesis

- As carbon dioxide concentration increases, rate of photosynthesis increases

Q

How does temperature affect rate of photosynthesis?

A
  • At low temperature, the rate of photosynthesis is limited by the number of collisions between substrate molecules and enzymes, as they have low kinetic energy
  • As temp increases, kinetic energy increase and there are more collisions so rate increases
  • At high temps rate decreases as enzymes are denatured

Q

How does amount of chlorophyll affect rate of photosynthesis?

A

Leaves with more chlorophyll are better able to absorb light for photosynthesis, so rate is faster

Q

What is a limiting factor?

A
  • A factor which, if in short supply, limits or reduces the rate of photosynthesis.
  • Other factors can be increased but the rate will remain the same until limiting factor is also increased
