Photoelectric Effect Flashcards
The energy of a photon (1)
E = hf
The energy of a photon (2)
E = hc/lambda
An increase in frequency does what to energy
increases it
What is the work function of a material
The minimum energy required to remove an electron from the surface of the metal.
If the energy of a photon > work function then
electrons will be emmited
if the energy of a photon > work function then
the extra energy becomes the Ek of the electron
Ek equation
hf = work function + Ek
What does increasing the intensity of light do?
Increases the number of - photons and electrons but the speed of electrons stays the same.
Increasing frequency does what?
Increases the speed of electrons but their number stays the same.
What does reducing wavelength do
The same as increasing frequecy
