what are leptons?
light particles
what are mesons?
medium weight particles
what are baryons?
heavy particles
what are the 6 quantities that must be conserved?
B - baryon number L - lepton number Q - charge S - strangeness energy and momentum must always be conserved too
what are the leptons required to know?
electron positron electron neutrino antielectron neutrino muon antimuon muon neutrino antimuon neutrino
What are the mesons required to know?
negative pion positive pion neutral pion negative kaon positive kaon neutral kaon antineutral kaon
what are the baryons required to know?
proton
antiproton
neutron
antineutron
what is the extra lepton rule?
A particle is always balanced with its neutrino so if there is an electron involved then there will be an electron neutrino.
Which particles are always the most stable?
the lightest ones.
how many quarks are baryons made of?
3 quarks or 3 antiquarks
how many quarks are mesons made of?
1 quark and 1 antiquark
what is the quark beta decay?
down (gives) up + electron + antielectron neutrino
what is the attractive range of the strong nuclear force
0.5-3fm
what is the repulsive range of the strong nuclear force
<0.5fm
what does gravity act on and what is its range?
everything with an infinite range
