Phosphate Binders Flashcards
Calcium carbonate (tums) dose:
500mg 3X daily with meals
do not exceed 1500mg/d elemental calcium
Calcium acetate (PhosLo)
2-3 tablets 3X daily with meals
do not exceed 1500mg/d elemental calcium
(169mg/tablet)
calcium acetate compared to calcium carbonate
calcium acetate will bind twice as much phosphate compared to calcium carbonate
may produce few hypercalcemic events
