Words that have the same spelling but different meanings and pronunciation

How we pronounce words
What is a consonant?
Sound that restricts airflow
(all apart from vowels)
What are vowels?
Sound that doesn’t restrict airflow
(a, e, i, o ,u)
What letter is a lateral consonant?

What 2 letters are nasal consonants?
N and M
What 4 letters are frictive consonants?
f, s, v, z
What 6 letters are plosive consonants?
b, d, p, t, k, g
What is a diphthong?
A sound made by combining two vowels

Repetition of ‘s’ sound in a line
(sound not s letter)
What is Lexical onomatopoeia?
A clear association between the sound of a word and the meaning of it
eg. sludge
What is non-lexical onomatopoeia?
‘non-words’ where their sounds are intended to signify a meaning
eg ‘grr’ angry

Creating humour through using words that sound alike but have different meanings
