DSM-5 for specific phobias
intense fear of an object or situation that’s out of proportion to any danger, causing immediate fear upon exposure and it leads to avoidance or tolerance with anxiety for >6 months with significant social/occupational impairment.
not due to substance, medication, neurologic or mental condition

CBT with exposure

intense fear of being scrutinized by others or embarrassing/humiliating self in public.
same as phobia.

if debilitating symptoms: SSRI/SNRI and/benzos
DSM-5 selective mutism
consistent failure to speak in specific situations despite the intact ability to comprehend and use language lasting >1 month (extending beyond 1 month of school) NOT due to language difficulty or communication disorder. Causes significant impairment
selective mutism onset? comorbid?
onset during childhood, typically manifesting in social settings due to comorbid social anxiety

DSM-5 criteria for separation anxiety?
extreme and developentally abnormal anxiety due to separation from attachment figures with at least 3 of the following:
separation leads to extreme distress OR complaints of physical symptoms
*excessive worry about loss/harm to AF OR experiencing event that leads to separation from AF
*Reluctance to stay away from home or go to school or work
*Reluctance to be alone
*Reluctance to sleep alone or away from home
*Having nightmares about separation and refusal to sleep without being in close proximity to AF
Symptoms must last >4 weeks in children or 6 months in adults and cause significant impairment and its not due to another mental condition
Tx for separation anxiety?
CBT and family therapy
SSRI can be added as adjunct
