How are phobias categorised
Excessive fear and anxiety triggered by an object person or situation
What are the three categories of phobia
Specific phobia - phobia to specific object
Social anxiety
Agoraphobia - phobia of being outside
What are the behavioural characteristics of phobia
Panic - crying screaming running ways
Avoidance - making a conscious effort to avoid the fear
Endurance - remain in presence of phobic stimulus but keep an eye etched
What are the emotional characteristics of phobias
Anxiety - unpleasant state of high arousal
Fear - immediate and extreme u pleasant response
Emotional response is unreasonable
What are the cognitive characteristics of phobias
Selective attention to phobic stimulus - either ignore or really focus on it
Irrational beliefs - no basis for reality
Cognitive distortions -inaccurate and unrealistic
