define innate adjustment
when an external invasive force meets an internal resistive force causing a concussion of forces which the innate intelligence of the body uses to correct a vertebral subluxationWhat the innate intelligence of the body does for the correction of a vertebral subluxation
(invasive force is coming from the outside- the adjustive thrust)

confidence in the truth of a proposition; not susceptible to rigorous proof
define chiropractic
the study and application of the art, science, and philosophy of locating, analyzing and correcting vertebral subluxations
define chiropractic objective
to locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxation and educate the community about the detrimental effect of subluxation on life and health
define compensation
an innate adaptation in the spine to help maintain equilibrium in the presence of a vertebral subluxation
define deductive reasoning
logic
reasoning from the general, or universal, to the specific, or particular, where the truth of the premise(s) is supposed to guarantee the truth of the conclusion and where explicit knowledge is derived
define diagnosis
the art or acts of identifying a specific disease from its signs and symptoms; a statement or conclusion concerning the nature or cause of some phenomenon
define disease
A disordered or incorrectly functioning organ, part, structure or system of the body resulting from the effect of genetic or developmental errors, infection, poisons, nutritional deficiency or imbalance, toxicity or unfavorable environmental factors, illness, sickness, ailment
Define dis-ease
the disorganizing effect of interference with the expression of innate forces on the matter of a living organism; a state of functional disharmony or physiological incoordination
define educated intelligence
a living thing’s capacity to learn, reason, remember, will, and understand
define evolution
a process of adaptation recognized over a relatively longer period of time that shows changes within a species
Define faith
belief without evidence
faith is not necessarily a religious word, but can be applied to any situation where judgments are made irrespective of evidence
Define force
the connecting link between intelligence and matter, consisting of both material and immaterial characteristics
define innate force
the immaterial creation by the innate intelligence of the body for the purpose of adapting universal forces for constructive use in the body
define universal force
the immaterial creation by universal intelligence for the purpose of uniting intelligence and matter
define life force
the vital essence that characterizes living things
define energy
the capacity to do work
define hypothesis
a provisional theory set forth to explain some class of phenomena, either accepted as a guide for further investigation or assumed for the sake of argument and testing
define immaterial
not consisting of matter; in chiropractic, this includes intelligence or principles of organization in the mental realm
define inductive reasoning
reasoning by which a sampling of parts builds a general law or principle, where the truth of the premise(s) merely makes it probable that the conclusion is true
define innate intelligence
the principle of organization in living matter
define intelligence
the ability to organize
what is LACVS?
an acronym used to describe the objective of chiropractic: to locate, analyze, and correct vertebral subluxations
define life
the union of intelligence and matter
define manipulation
the forceful movement of a joint beyond its physiological range of motion (in joints); it is not done for the correction of vertebral subluxation and its not synonymous with adjustment
define material
the substance of which a physical object is composed; a substance that occupies space and has weight and that constitutes the observable universe
Define materialism
the belief that only physical things truly exist and every apparent instance of a mental phenomenon is a feature of some physical object
define mechanism
the belief that science can explain all natural and biological processes in terms of electrical, chemical, and physical interactions among material particles, without any reference to intelligent agency or purpose
define mental impulse
an immaterial force intellectually imbued with adaptive information that travels efferently from brain cells to tissue cells
define mixing
an historical chiropractic term originating with D.D. Palmer, the founder of the profession, to describe the addition of therapeutics to chiropractic practice
Define nerve impulse
the material forces that travel afferently and efferently over the nerve system
Define pattern (general)
a combination of qualities, acts, or tendencies forming a consistent or characteristic arrangement
define pattern (specific)
in chiropractic analysis, a set of persistent and consistent findings indicating the presence of vertebral subluxation
Define philosophy
the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct; a critical study of the basic principles and concepts of a particular branch of knowledge; a systemic body of general conceptions
define principle
a fundamental law, axiom or doctrine, a rule or law exemplified in natural phenomena
define reasoning
a process that integrates perceptions by means of forming abstractions or conceptions in framing conclusions, judgments, or inferences from facts or premises
define science of chiropractic
systematic knowledge of the physical or material aspect of the universe related to vertebral subluxation. Any skill or technique that reflects a precise application of facts or principles related to vertebral subluxation
define straight chiropractic
a term used to describe the vertebral subluxation centered practice of chiropractic
define sign
objective indications of a particular entity as observed and interpreted by a clinician rather than the patient or lay observer
What is SMT?
Spinal manipulative therapy; a means or a mechanism by which an external force in the form of manipulation, traction, massage, and mobilization are introduced into a joint primarily for the purpose of a relieving pain, increasing joint mobility and/or influencing the patient’s symptoms and conditions
define symptom
subjective evidence of the adaptability of the body (chiropractic usage); subjective evidence of disease or physical disturbance (medical usage)
define syndrome
the association of several clinically recognizable phenomena that typically occurs together
define theory
a coherent group of general propositions used as principles of explanations for a class of phenomena; a proposed explanation whose status is still conjectural; the branch of science or art that deals with its principles or methods as distinguished from its practice
