Pharna Flashcards
The 4 types of action in drugs, explain and mention examples?
Stimulation: ehancement of a biological response eg adrenaline increase heart rate
Depression: diminution of a biological response eg barbiturates depress CNS
Cytotoxic action: toxic effects to kill cancer cell or invading microorganisms.
Replacement: replacement of the natural hormones or enzymes which are deficient in the body eg insulin.
Name the receptors present on cell membrane?
Alpha and beta receptors and muscarinic and nicotinic receptors
Receptors inside the cytoplasm?
Steroid hormones and vitamin D because they are lipid soluble and easily enter the cytoplasm
Receptors Inside the nucleus?
Thyroid hormones
Ability of a drug to bind to a specific receptor forming drug/receptor complex ?
Affinity
Efficacy/intrinsic activity?
Ability to evoke a response
