What must you be satisfied of to dispense an emergency supply at the request of a prescriber?
It is emergency circumstances, unable to supply immediate, supplies with 72 hours
What must you do before dispensing an emergency supply at the request of a patient?
- Interview patient
- satisfy the need is immediate for a POM
- impractical to obtain Rx
- previously prescribed medication
Can you supply an emergency supply of CD?
Not schedule 1,2 or 3 EXCEPT PHENOBARBITOL FOR EPILEPSY
What must be recorded in the POM register when an emergency supply is dispensed? (request of prescriber)
- date of supply
- details of medicine
- name, address of practitioner
- name, address of patient
- date on prescription
- when received, must have date
What can you dispense at the request of a patient?
- must ensure it is an appropriate dose
- no more than 30 day supply. Should give out smallest pack size, but full cycle of oral contraceptive and liquid antibiotics
- schedule 4/5 CD maximum, no longer than 5 days
What must be entered into the POM register? (request of patient)
- date of supply
- medication details
- name and address of patient
- nature of emergency
What must be on the label of an emergency supply dispensed at the request of a patient?
- date of supply
- medication details
- details of patient
- keep out of reach of patient
- EMERGENCY SUPPLY
What are the requirements to dispense prescriptions from outside of the UK?
- EEA/Swiss HCP
- patient name, surname, DOB
- prescriber’s name, surname, professional qualifications, direct contact details, including email, tel.no/fax and work address
- name of medicine, form, quantity, strength and dosage
- signature
- date of issue
