Pharmacology Of Male Reporductive Hormones Flashcards
1
Q
HPA male axis
A
GnRH is released in pulsitile fashion
- this causes release of LH and FSH from the pituitary
LH = testosterone from leydig cells
- levels of testosterone negative feedback on LH and GnRH
FSH = initiation of spermatogenesis in the cords and upregulates ABP production
- directly influenced via inhibin released from Sertoli cells to inhibit FSH
2
Q
Inhibin and activin
A
Both are released by Sertoli cells
- inhibin inhibits release of FSH
- activin stimulates release of FSH
3
Q
Aromatase enzyme
A
Converts androgens to estrogens
