Pharmacology of Anticoagulants Flashcards
What is Warfarin used for?
Venous Thrombosis, Pulmonary Embolism, Systemic Embolism
Adverse effect of warfarin?
Purple toe syndrome; Metabolized by CYP2C9
What is the MOA of Dabigatran?
Prodrug that competitively inhibits thrombin
Uses Dabigatran?
Reduces stroke and systemic embolism in patients with AF.
Idarucizumab is the antidote.
MOA of unfractioned heparin
Binds allosterically to antithrombin to inhibit F10 and thrombin.
Use of unfractioned heparin? Adverse effect?
Acute MI, Unstable angina, DVT; Can cause HIT
What is different about Low molecular weight heparin as opposed to unfractioned heparin?
It has a greater effect on F10 than thrombin; Can be given subQ
Use of protamine sulfate?
Antidote for heparin
Whats the difference between Fondaprinux and heparin?
Fondaprinux can be used in HIT
MOA of Bivalirudin?
Direct inhibitor of thrombin; Can be used in HIT
