Hemostasis Disorders Flashcards
Which plasma procoagulants are made in the liver?
All except for F8
Which plasma procoagulants depend on Vitamin K?
F2, 7, 9 and 10
What is the intrinsic pathway?
F12, 11, 9, 8, 5, 10, Plasminogen, Fibrinogen, 13
What is the extrinsic pathway?
F7, 5, 10, Plasminogen, Fibrinogen, 13
Which test measures the intrinsic pathway? Extrinsic pathway?
PTT detects abnormalities prior to F 10, PT
What will give an abnormal Prothrombin time?
Deficiencies of F1, 2, 5, 7, and 10.
Heparin activated antithrombin 3.
What will give an abnomal Thrombin Clotting time?
Fibrin degradation products, Antithrombin-heparin cofactor
What is Fibrin degradation products?
A test of the fibrinolytic system; Plasmin attacks fibrin-fibrinogen = FDP
What can cause a Vitamin K deficiency?
Diet, Lack of bile salts (obstructive jaundice, fistula), Intestinal malabsorption w/ decreased gut flora (antibiotics)
What is the MOA of Coumarin/Warfarin?
Antagonizes Vitamin K; Overdose characterized by bleeding and abnormal PT, PTT.
What is the MOA of Heparin?
Binds to antithrombin 3 to inactivate thrombin. Overdose therapy is protamine sulfate. Prolonged PT, PTT.
