Lithium toxicity
A
Causes hypercalcaemia which causes constipation and fatigue Can cause leucocytosis- high WCC Nausea and vomiting Course tremor Nephrotoxicity Hypothyroidism Weight gain Urinary incontinence

Lithium blood tests
A
Blood test done 12 hours after dose and then every 3 months

MAOI interactions
A
MAOI and tyramine containing foods e.g. cheese can cause a hypertensive crisis

Increase in appetite

Mechanism of action of lithium
A
Interferes with inositol triphosphate formation
Interferes with cAMP formation
