Schizoid personality disorder
- emotionally aloof
- not interested in people’s emotions
- not interested in relationships
- prefers to be alone
- asexual
Schizotypal personality disorder
- has unusual beliefs and behaviours
- brief psychotic symptoms
- magical thinking
- not prodromal to schizophrenia
Emotionally unstable personality disorder
Core symptoms:
- mood swings
- impulsive behaviours
- spontaneous self harm
- intense jealousy
Other symptoms:
- unstable relationships
- fear of abandonment
- can’t communicate how they feel
- may have experienced childhood neglect and abuse
- more common in females
- often get pseudo - hallucinations
Histrionic personality disorder
- shallow
- centre of attention
- flirtatious
- can accelerate other personality disorders
- self dramatising
- physical appearance used for attention seeking
Dis-social personality disorder
- failure to conform to social norms
- blames others for actions
- no frustration tolerance
- impulsive
- do not learn from mistakes
- substance misuse is common
- reckless and deceptive
- more common in males
- commonly experienced some form of abuse
Narcissistic personality disorder
- grandiose self importance
- preoccupation with fantasies of unlimited power, beauty or success
- sense of entitlement
- takes advantage of others
- lack of empathy
- excessive need for admiration
- chronic envy
- arrogant
Anankastic personality disorder
- likes rules, lists and organisation
- perfectionism that hampers tasks
- dedicated to work and efficiency - do not need breaks
- meticulous
- unwilling to pass on tasks if not done their way
Dependent personality disorder
- Absolutely reliant on someone to make all their decisions from them
- cannot make reasonable requests from someone
Anxious avoidant personality disorder
Avoids ALL situations which cause anxiety
Does not try and overcome their anxiety
Treatment for unstable personality disorder
Biological:
- no medication is licensed but often given antipsychotics
Psychological:
- DBT - dialectic behaviour therapy
- group therapy
