Definition of anxiety
State which presents itself with psychological and physical symptoms linked to a perceived threat
At least 6 months
Psychological symptoms of anxiety

- fear & impending doom
- dizziness/faint
- restless
- exaggerated startle response
- irritability
- insomnia
- Depersonalization
- Globus hystericus
- Inability to concentrate

Hyperventilation causes a decrease in CO2 which causes respiratory symptoms

Focussing on something means that you notice it more so more likely to worry about it being abnormal

Anxiety = estimate of danger/ estimate of coping
Problems with safety behaviours
Believing that they are only coping due to the safety behaviour and won’t be able to cope without it
Panic disorder
A fear of ones own physiological and psychological reactions
Bodily changes viewed as signs of impending collapse
Avoiding situations that trigger the reactions
Generalised anxiety
Fear of the future thus are over-cautious & avoids risks
