It slows dissolution of a pill slowing release of the active ingredient thus increasing duration of effect of medication.
What is the purpose of an enteric coating?
The coating allows the active ingredient to pass through the stomach and into the intestines before it dissolves avoiding degradation of the drug by stomach acid.
