Pharmacology Drugs Flashcards
1
Q
How does Class I drugs work?
A
- alter the absolute refractory period to decrease the risk of premature impulses
- depresses automaticity by slowing the rate of spontaneous depolarization of pacemaker cells.
- lower CO
2
Q
What EKG monitoring should you do for Class Ia drugs?
A
Monitor the QRS and QT intervals. This drug is a potent Na channel blocker that prolongs the QRS intervals, and prolong repolarization/prolong QT interval
3
Q
What are Class IA indications?
A
- treat atrial dysrhythmias, PVCs and ventricular tachycardia
4
Q
Class IA drugs? (3)
A
- disopyramide
- procainamide
- quinidine
5
Q
Indication for Ib drugs?
A
- ventricular dysrhythmias
6
Q
Monitoring for Ib drugs?
A
Lowest potent Na channel blocker.
Shortened refractory period, no concern for Qtc.
7
Q
Type of Ib drug? (1)
A
Lidocaine
8
Q
Lidocaine toxicity symptoms?
A
Most apparent in the central nervous system: drowsiness, confusion/disorientation, paresthesias.
Muscle twitching can indicate advanced toxicity and probability of focal/grand mal seizures.
