Pharmacology Flashcards
What are the evidence based levels in pharmacology?
Class 1 - acceptable
Class 2a - intervention of choice my majority, generally positive results
Class 2b - fair to good, considered optional
Class indeterminate - research stage, no harm but no benefit
Class 3 - unacceptable
Adenosine
First drug for most forms of narrow SVT
Effective in terminating reentry involving av or sinus node.
Does not convert a fib, a flutter, or VT
What is the dosing for adenosine?
6mg, 12mg, 12mg
Amiodarone
Treat wide variety of atrial and ventricular tachyarrythmias. Rate control of rapid atrial arrhythmias when digoxin is ineffective. Shock refractory to VF/pulseless VT. Polymorphic VT and wide-complex tachycardia of uncertain origin. Stable VT when cardioversion unsuccessful.
Note may produce vasodilation and hypotension.
What is the dosing for amiodarone in cardiac arrest?
300mg, 150mg
Aspirin contraindications
Relative in asthma and active ulcer disease.
Contraindication with known hypersensitivity.
Atropine indications
Symptomatic sinus bradycardia
Increases myocardial, oxygen demand, avoid in hypothermic bradycardia, not effective in type II av block or new third degree.
What are beta blockers indicated for?
Tachycardia, hypertension, mi,chef, arrhythmias, coronary arty disease, hyperthyroidism, essential tremor, aortic dissection, glaucoma
Midazolam
Versed
Benzodiazepine
Used for anesthesia, procedural sedation, difficulty sleeping, decreasing anxiety
Phenytoin
Dilantin (brand)
Anticonvulsant (class)
Metabolism liver
Anti seizure. Not useful in absence seizures
Naloxone
Narcan (brand)
Block effects of opioids
Opioid antagonist - attaches to opioid receptors and reverses and blocks the effects of other opioids
