Pharmacology Flashcards
What is Aciclovir used for?
HSV + VZV
What is Oseltamivir used for?
Influenza strains
What is Ribavirin used for?
Hep C
What is Zidovudine used for?
HIV
What does HAART for HIV involve?
Combination of 3 reverse-transcriptase inhibitors - NNRTI + 2 NRTIs
Protease inhibitor may also be used as adjuncts
What is the MOA of Aciclovir?
Acts as guanosine analogue - blocks viral DNA polymerase + limits replication
What is the MOA of Oseltamivir?
Competitive inhibitor of viral neuraminidase - limits release of new viral proteins
What is the MOA of Bibavirin?
Viral RNA nucleoside mimetic - cause lethal hypermutation during viral RNA synthesis
What is the MOA of Zidovudine?
Thymidine analogue - inhibits viral reverse transcriptase which can suppress viral DNA becoming incorporated into host genome
What are the ADR’s of Aciclovir?
Abd. pain, diarrhoea, skin irritation/inflammation
What are the CI’s of Aciclovir?
Elderly
What are the ADR’s of Oseltamivir?
Abd. pain, nausea, vomiting, dyspepsia, headache
What are the CI’s of Oseltamivir?
Pregnant
What are the ADR’s of Ribavirin?
Lots
Commonly depression, rarely haemolytic anaemia
What are the CI’s of Ribavirin?
Pregnant or pre existing CVD
