calcium channel blockers will directly
relax arterial tone meaning they will vasodilate
nitrates
relax venous tone but will also relax arterial tone thus it is a vasodilator
direct renin inhibitors
inhibit renin release thus reduce hromonal vasoconstrictive effects
ACEi
inhibit the conversion of AI to AII thus they also reduce hormonal vasoconstrictive effects
ARBs
blocks angiotensin from binding to its receptors thus reducing hormonal vasoconstrictive effects
alpha-1 blockers
block post-synaptic norepinephrine alpha 1 receptors thus reduce sympathetic vasoconstrictive activity
alpha-2 agonists
stimulates the pre-synaptic inhibitory norepinephrine thus reduce sympathetic vasoconstrictive activity
Beta blockers
reduces calcium levels in the SA and AV nodes thus they slow down heart rate
calcium channel blockers vasodilate thus reduce arterial tone but they also
effect the calcium channels in the SA and AV nodes thus they slow down heart rate
calcium channels blockers not only slow down heart rate (why) and relax arterial tone but will also
relax venous tone
why slow heart rate?- affect the calcium channels in the SA and AV node
k sparing diuretics
block Na reabsorption in the DCT and CT thus they increase intravasculara tone
thiazide diuretic
inhibit the Na/Cl co-transporter in the DCT thus they increase intravascular volume
loop diuretics
inhibit Na/K/Cl co-transporter in the thick ascending loop of henle thus they increase intravascular volume
side effects of beta blockers
fatigue and impotence
side effects of Calcium channel blockers
flushing and ankle swelling
