Anesthetic
Applied to the skin to deaden pain.

Antibiotic
Kill bacteria causing skin infections.
Examples: Bacitracin/Neomycin/PolymixinB, Neosporin Ointment
Antifungal
Kill fungi infecting the skin.
Examples: Miconazole, Monistat, Clotrimazole, Lotrimin
Antiparasitic
Kill mites or lice.
Examples: Lindane, Kwell, Permethrin, Nix
Antipruritic
Reduce severe itching.
Examples: Diphenhydramine, Benadryl, Caladryl
Antiseptic
Used to kill bacteria in skin cuts and wounds or at a surgical site.
Examples: Isopropyl Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide
Corticosteroid Cream
Specific type of powerful anti-inflammatory cream.
Examples: Hydrocortisone, Cortaid, Triamcinolone
Bone Reabsorption Inhibitors
Conditions that result in weak and fragile bones, such as osteoporosis and Paget’s disease, are improved by medications that reduce the reabsorption of bones.
Examples: Alendronate, Fosamax, Ibandronate, Boniva
Calcium Supplements
Vitamin D Therapy
Maintaining high blood levels of calcium in association with vitamin D helps maintain bone density; used to treat osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and rickets.
Examples: Calcium Carbonate, Oystercal, Tums, Calcium Citrate
Corticosteroids
A hormone produced by the adrenal cortex that has very strong anti-inflammatory properties. It is particularly useful in treating rheumatoid arthritis.
Examples: Prednisone, Medrol, Decadron
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs)
A large group of drugs that provide mild pain relief and anti-inflammatory benefits for conditions such as arthritis.
Examples: Ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin, Naproxen, Aleve, Aspirin
