What are side effects of Midazolam administration?
Decreased LOC leading to:
- Respiratory depression
- Loss of airway control
- Hypotension

0.1mg/kg IM, repeat after 10 mins PRN

- Anticonvulsant - reduces seizure activity
- Minor tranquilizer
- Muscle relaxant

What are the actions of Aspirin?
- Inhibits platelet function for up to 7 days
2. Suppresses inflammation, reduces fever, relieves pain (rapidly absorbed from the stomach and small bowel).
What is the use for Aspirin in paramedic practice?
In suspected myocardial ischaemia - reducing platelet aggregation and limiting clot development
What are the adverse effects of Aspirin?
- Allergic reaction - asthma, angioneurotic oedema, urticaria, rhinitis, shock)
- Aggravation of bleeding tendencies
- Gastric irritation (unlikely with 1 tablet)
What are the contraindication to Aspirin administration?
- Known or suspected allergy to salicylates
- known or suspected active bleeding
- known bleeding tendency
- Chest pain associated with psychostimulant overdose (due to increased risk of cerebral haemorrhage).
