PFT Review Set 3 Flashcards
1
Q
Definition and Measurement objective for Slow Vital Capacities (SVC) (4)
A
SVC is the volume of gas measured form a slow complete expiration after a maximal inspiration without forced or rapid effort.
- VC
- IC
- Vt
- ERV
2
Q
Test Technique for Slow Vital Capacities (SVC)
A
- Normal Vt 3-4 breaths
- Inhales maximally from resting expiratory level
- Exhales completely Or visa versa
3
Q
What can be inferred if RV% is high?
A
Air trapping has occurred; air can’t get out.
- Pay attention to RL/TLC
- Doesn’t necessarily imply COPD: just hyperinflation. It could still be Asthma IF TLC and FVC + FEV1 are lower than normal or normal.
4
Q
Does a DLCO impairment indicate airflow problems?
A
Nope, does not indicate obstructive or restrictive process
- Indicates pulmonary capillaries; could be pulmonary hypertension for example. perfusion/blood flow issue.
