PFT Acceptability criteria Flashcards
Between test acceptability criteria for Slow Vital Capacity (SVC)?
2 acceptable VC’s obtained, volumes within 150 ml (use the 2 largest)
- SVC is also known as VC
Between test acceptability criteria for FVC?
3 acceptable maneuvers need to be present with 2 largest being within 0.150L of on another
- Peds have a different value
- BEV <5% or 150ml
Between test acceptability criteria for FEV1?
3 acceptable maneuvers need to be present with the 2 largest being within 0.150L
Between test acceptability criteria for Specific Airway resistance (RAW) and specific airway conductance (sGAW)?
3 acceptable efforts need to be present with <10% variability between 1 another
Between test acceptability criteria for Nitrogen washout?
Only 1 acceptable test needed
- If > 1 test done, acceptable tests should be within 10% of another
- Washout time = 3-4 minutes
Between test acceptability criteria for DLCO?
2 acceptable tests are required and should be within 2 mL CO/min/mmHg of one another or within 10% of the highest value
Between test acceptability criteria for He Dilution?
only 1 acceptable test needed.
- If >1 test done, acceptable tests should be within 10% of one another
Between test acceptability criteria for MIP and MEP?
At least 3 efforts should be completed with < 20% variability between them all
- Best 2 within 10%
What is the general rest period for between maneuver evaluation?
Rest period of >/= to 1 min between tests
How long should inhaled drugs be stopped before PFT testing?
No short acting inhaled drugs 4 hours prior, oral therapy, and any LABA should not be taken 12 hours to testing.
- could affect reversibility testing
Acceptability FVC
BEV <5%
No cough in first second of expiration
no glottic closure (1sec for FEV 1)
Achieve one of:
- expiratory plateau
- expiratory time >15s
- FVC within the repeatability or larger and last one
- No leak or obstructive mouthpiece
Repeatability FVC
3 tests meet acceptability
- TWO largest FVC with <150ml
- TWO largest FEV1 within <150ml
FVL acceptability
Same as FVC
BEV <5%
No cough in first second of expiration
no glottic closure (1sec for FEV 1)
Achieve one of:
- expiratory plateau
- expiratory time >15s
- FVC within the repeatability or larger and last one
- No leak or obstructive mouthpiece
FVL reproducibility
BEV <5%
No cough in first second of expiration
no glottic closure (1sec for FEV 1)
Achieve one of:
- expiratory plateau
- expiratory time >15s
- FVC within the repeatability or larger and last one
No leak or obstructive mouthpiece
Acceptability PEF
good seal
no hesitation
no cough
